2008-01-17
The Euroregional Center for Democracy launches a new project – `Accountable Guvernance in Higher Education: a program to promote principles of good governance in state-funded universities from Arad, Cluj and Timișoara University Centres`. The local partner is `Aurel Vlaicu` University from Arad. The project is implemented from December 1, 2007 to September 30, 2008 with the financial support of the EUROPEAN UNION, through PHARE 2005 Program Strenghtening Democracy in Romania, Component 2 – Democracy, human rights, the rule of law, independance of justice and fight against corruption.
The objective of this initiative is to define and implement in a participatory manner a general pilot framework for accountable, transparent and efficient governance in Arad, Cluj and Timișoara University Centers with a view to the academic decision making processes, including the management of cultural diversity in higher education.
Its accomplishment requires good knowledge of the decision making process within the universities, know-how and capacities at the level of university management and a colaboration between the actors who can support a sustainable implementation of an academic governance framework based on public accountability, transparency of decision and access to public information.
The activities planned within the project include a study to measure public perceptions regarding methods of decision making within leadership structures from higher education and a comparative assessment of these as concerning their transparency, public accountability and efficiency, training sessions in Lobby, Advocacy and Networking, workshops on themes such as `Transparency in PR and Communication`, `Management of consultation processes`, `Participatory management and management of cultural diversity`.
Beneficiaries will be 15 student and youth organizations from the three university centres, six public universities financed from state budget funds (University of West, Timișoara; Politehnica University Timișoara, University of Medicine and Pharmacy `Victor Babeș`, Timișoara; University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine `Banat`, Timișoara; `Aurel Vlaicu` University, Arad; `Babes Bolyai` University, Cluj), professors and students.
