2016-06-14

Between 4 and 9 June, 2016, the Euroregional Center for Democracy (CED) made a study visit to Halden and Oslo, Norway, in order to set the ground for a Romanian-Norwegian know-how exchange, in the field of accessibility of universities and university libraries for people with disabilities.

The main objectives of the visit were:

• To establish a partnership and set the ground for a joint project in the field of better inclusion of students / candidates with disabilities in higher education, in Western Romania, Østfold – Halden and Fredrikstad municipalities – and Oslo;

• To facilitate know-how sharing with the Østfold University College Library and other university libraries in Norway, concerning the mechanisms and tools used in the process of making higher education accessible to students / candidates with disabilities.

During the visit to Norway, CED collected examples of accessibility policies and mechanisms that ensure the inclusion and universal design for people with disabilities. Moreover, CED established cooperation agreements with the Østfold University College Library and the Oslo and Akershus University College. The partnerships commit the signatory parties to continuing the information exchange and expertise sharing, in the field of accessible higher education, and elaborating a joint project for improving the accessibility of the universities and university libraries in Western Romania.

The visit took place within the frame of the project “Study visit for know-how exchange and establishing partnership with the Østfold University College Library, in the field of accessibility for users with disabilities”. The project benefits from a 14,560 Lei grant from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA Grants and Norway Grants - Fund for Bilateral Relations, Second Call, Programme RO01 - Technical Assistance and Fund for Bilateral Relations at National Level.
