Regional cross-border cooperation

BANAT 22 – Promotion of Top 22 Tourist Locations and Events in Banat, 2007 – 2008

Euroregional Center for Democracy, Timisoara City Hall (Tourism Info Centre), Tourist Organization Municipality Pancevo and Kanjiza Municipality - Serbia

Objective
To foster the development of tourism industry in Banat as a tool to achieve closer economic and social integration of this cross-border region.

Specific objective
By the end of 2008, economic indicators of Banat tourism development increased by 5%, through coordinated effort of local and regional authorities, tourism stakeholders, media and civic sector from Banat region in joint promotion of the best 22 tourism products of both countries.

Location
The project will be implemented in six Serbian and Romanian districts (Timis, Caras-Severin, Mehedinti, Northern Banat, Central Banat and South Banat) covering an area of 52 towns and municipalities (with approximately 2.5 million inhabitants).

Target groups
120 representatives of local and regional authorities, tourism stakeholders, media and civic sector from six districts of Banat cross-border region, 12 persons staff of the partner organisations, associates or other recommended parties, six tourism organisations from the target regions and national tourism agencies, key local, regional and national media: TV, radio, web, newspapers and relevant magazines.

Activities
sa Conduct a research on the development of Banat tourism strategy
sa Set up two Tourism Info Centres in Timisoara and Pancevo and four Tourist info points
sa Organize a promotional campaign through public competition for TOP 22 Banat tourism locations and tourism events
sa Organize a study tour and discussion panels for local and regional authorities, tourism stakeholders, media and civic sector to select locations to be integrated into ‘Banat Tourism Guide‘
sa PR campaigns ‘Promoting the culture of hospitality in Banat’ and ‘Mobilization of Banat nationalities in tourism development’
sa Final Conference - joint ‘Banat tourism’ stand presented at Belgrade Tourism Fair

The Euroregional Center for Democracy (CED) from Timisoara, Romania, and the School of Management in Fribourg, Switzerland, are launching a competition to select student organizations or initiative groups to conduct communication/advocacy campaigns in the university campuses of Timisoara.
